The next day at the Math lecture, Tona was tired.

Despite the hard, wooden chairs and the small, uncomfortable table, which provided only enough space to put her pad and pencil on, she crossed her arms and laid her head down on it.

Her eyelids dropped all the time.

She worked harder on forcing them open, than she listened to the steady voice of the teacher, Mr. Friedrichs.

Herbert’s girl of the night had not only been late, but made an effort to stay awake the whole night. With not being able to sleep in the late afternoon, she lacked, again, precious sleep. Time she needed to let her human body recover to keep the disguise going.

And this morning the janitor had threatened her with terminating her rental agreement if she stored again moldy food in the fridge. He straight refused to believe her it wasn’t moldy. The shards of her china, smashed against her door, at least, got a drastic reaction.

The ill-mannered woman got a termination without notice. In the evening, Tona would have an empty room to her other side back in her shared apartment at the dormitory.

A ball of wadded paper hit her head and stuck in her red curls.

Tona picked it out and looked through the ascending rows of benches behind her. Nobody looked at her, beside that smirking, black haired, blue-eyed, pale woman at four rows behind her: The ill-mannered woman glared at her. She studied the same subject.

So sad she couldn’t use her fairy powers here. She’d rather change that woman into a tree than just dropping the insult.

Yet, the teacher kept speaking, and Tona hastened to mask her next yawn. At the moment, she could do nothing.

Tona dropped the paper ball.

In her next lecture she would find a place further up the ranks or more sideways to avoid that woman.

Maybe, just maybe she shouldn’t have laughed.

Yet, it hadn’t been her starting a fight over a bowl of noodles.

She rested her heavy head on one palm and copied the notes from the blackboard in front of her. Something about quadratics. She had to revise it later, after she got some sleep.

The next ball of wadded paper hit her head.

Tona didn’t bother to turn around. She picked it out and dropped it to the floor to the other one. Then, with a little kick of her feet, she moved it down the ranks some floors.

The round clock hanging at the sight of the blackboard said she had another half an hour to go until the lecture ended.

She could ignore the paper for that long, decided Tona.

“Mr. Friedrichs. I’ve got a question regarding the second variable in the formula. Shouldn’t it be a ‘m’ instead of a ‘p’ in the exponent?”, asked the sweet voice of the ill-mannered woman from behind.

Tona felt her heart skip a beat. This was worse. The woman was not only ill-mannered, but also skilled.

She watched the teacher turn and revisit his formula. Then, he changed it.

“Thank you”, said Mr. Friedrichs. To the whole audience, he said: “Take this woman as an example to be more attentive in class.
